41st Society for the Study of Japonisme Award • 8th Society for the Study of Japonisme Young Researcher’s Award application guidelines
‘The Society for the Study of Japonisme Award’ was established in 1980 to encourage broader research into Japonisme, to reach a wide audience, and to honour the outstanding achievements of Society members. Furthermore, 'The Society for the Study of Japonisme Young Researcher’s Award' was established in 2013 to support and encourage the activities of young researchers holding promising visions for future research.
1. Eligibility
The Society for the Study of Japonisme Award
Members and student members of the society (excluding the members of the executive committee in charge of the awards) who have contributed to the research on Japonisme through the following achievements: books, papers, reviews, translations and exhibitions that were published in Japanese, English or French between the period of April 1st, 2018 and March 31st, 2020.
The Society for the Study of Japonisme Young Researcher’s Award
Members and student members of the society (excluding the members of the executive committee in charge of the awards) who are considered as early career researchers (with their first paper published less than 10 years ago) who’s following achievements hint at promising future research activities: books, papers, critics, translations and exhibitions that were published in Japanese, English or French between the period of April 1st,2018 and March 31st, 2020.
2. Application method
Members and student members apply themselves or are recommended by other members. They fill out the necessary elements in the designated recommendation letter format, sign (or stamp) the document, add a copy of their research achievement (or the actual item), and mail it to the society secretariat by the designated date. For both nominations, we only accept one recommendation per person. You can download the recommendation letter format from our homepage or request it from the society secretariat. One cannot apply for the award with the same achievement two years in a row. Candidates, recommended members, and supporting members, must all be either member or student member of the society.

4. Deadline
May 31st, 2020
5. Election method
The elective committees of the Japonisme Society Award and the Young Researcher’s award will judge the applicants. The executive committee will make the final decision.
6. Announcement of results
Prize winners will be elected around mid-October. The selection will be notified through our homepage and the News Letter. We ask the winners to give a commemoration lecture about their work. The dates for the awards ceremony and the lecture will be notified through our homepage.
7. Main prize・supplementary prize
Japonisme Society Award: Prize certificate・Monetary award of 100.000 yen
Young Researcher’s Award: Prize certificate・Monetary award of 50.000 yen
