The Society for the Study of Japonisme, in the quest to enrich and enlarge upon the content of the Hatakeyama Symposium of 2018 (the eighth edition), organized and held the newly-titled “the Society for the Study of Japonisme International Symposium” on 5 October, 2019. The Organizing Committee, in wanting to maintain this trajectory, hereupon makes a call among the members of the Society for themes pertinent to the 2021 version of the International Symposium, to be held online, and featuring simultaneous interpretation. We encourage all of the members to peruse the following project plan and encourage applications with the succinct new theme.

Following the great success of the second International Symposium of the Society for
the Study of Japonisme, held online in 2020 with simultaneous interpretation, courtesy of the cooperation of the Ebara Hatakeyama Memorial Foundation – we have decided to organize a further installment for 2021.
We will publish the contents, abstracts etc. on our homepage and in a forthcoming volume of Study of Japonisme. The presenters of paper will accordingly be allowed sufficient time to suitably draft and shape their papers, following referee assessments on our proceedings, enabling them to be suitably fit for publication in two languages, namely in Japanese and English. Presenters/ authors should declare, in their acknowledgements, whether or not their paper has been modified following the International Symposium 2021 Society for the Study of Japonisme International Symposium.

Notices for the call of themes of the the Society for the Study of Japonisme International Symposium 2021
We hereby make a call for themes for the Society for the Study of Japonisme International Symposium 2021. Please remit your name and draft outline (max. 150 words) of your proposal as an e-mail attachment, and send to the below-mentioned member of the Board in charge. For reference, and to provide some context, consider the list of the themes pertinent to the previous symposiums as listed below.
The Organizing Committee will take charge of the selection of theme and relay the outcomes to the Board of the Directors responsible for final decisions. Discussions at both at the Committee and the Board levels will be held in the Japanese language. Upon and subject to acceptance of any proposal within the orbit of your research, your assistance may thereafter be required by the organization.
Criteria for submissions: limited to the regular and the student members of the Society for the Study of Japonisme.
